Exercise equipment

Buy equipment for the plan—not the fantasy.

The former equipment directory now helps readers make a smaller number of better training purchases.

01

Begin with the movement need

A mat, adjustable dumbbells, resistance bands, a bench, or a cardio option can be useful when it directly supports a repeatable plan. More equipment does not automatically create more consistency.

02

Measure and test

Check ceiling height, floor space, storage, weight capacity, adjustment range, noise, power requirements, and whether the equipment feels stable through the intended movement.

03

Plan for ownership

Consider warranty, replacement parts, maintenance, resale, and whether a gym or studio already gives you better access to expensive equipment.
